Collect old interviews, quotes, anecdotes of pianists of the golden age.
Founded: 01 December, 2007 .. by Bassio

Aim

This project aims to collect as much anecdotal evidence as possible from the pianists who are sometimes referred to as "Pianists of the golden age". This includes interviews, insightful quotes, interesting or important anecdotes.

Pianists of the golden age point to famous pianists who lived and performed in the public scene following the death of Liszt and Rubinstein who ruled the scene towards the end of the nineteenth century. Fortunately enough, many of these pianists lived at the time of the appearance of the phonograph and made many recordings.

This project will include pianists as:

  1. Sergei Rachmaninoff
  2. Josef Hofmann
  3. Leopold Godowsky
  4. Ignaz Friedman
  5. Paderewski
  6. Josef Lhevinne
  7. Vladimir De Pachmann

(TODO: expand the list)

Goal

Collection of this info will help us better understand the thoughts of the musicians of this era, how views on music changed since then and will also give us many hints on the performance practice of their time, particularly keboard practice.
